ChurchA Poem by Penny EllenLies are the foundation of modern society, in the religious sense. I’m not referring to just deception spewed from the pulpit, but the untruthfulness of individuals’ souls. How many people go to church regularly without REALLY knowing what religion they are participating in? Without really practicing it? Without questioning it? Too damn many.
Never mind that an in-crowd/out-crowd mentality runs rampant through this country, dividing our country into sects based upon religion rather than uniting us in American brotherhood.
No, the real shame is people who attend church without knowing the doctrine of the church; people who are fundamentally afraid of where they’ll go when they die if they don’t follow the rules.
I’m sorry, but I don’t find that a good way to live; in fear.
I can’t believe that any God who would have gone out of its way to create me and love me would want me to allow myself to be immersed in a group mentality of fear. I can’t believe that it would want me to belittle those who believe differently from me, religiously or to hate people based on things they cannot choose. I wouldn’t want to believe in a God like that, but apparently most of America does. That’s the biggest shame of all. © 2011 Penny Ellen |
