Blinking

Blinking

A Poem by Penny Ellen

I know what monsters
I make of myself.
Nights are my Hyde,
Days my Jekyll,
and I will never look back.

Words are honest,
and claims are real, still,
I am a selfish creature,
taking what I know I can get,
finding ways to enjoy the rush,
distraction from the
holes
in me.

Fill them up.

I fill them up
with all the wrong materials;
cure after cure,
hour,
minute,
second,
blink...
and realize,
there's not much left
for love to settle on.
