Comfort ZoneA Poem by Penny EllenDarkness wraps around me Like the arms of the lover I miss most, Onyx streets slicked over with downpour, No stars tonight, love. Maybe you and I watch the same scene Through different eyes. Does the glow still linger in yours? It left mine. In downpour, The screams are fading from the Pounding of the drops on my shoulders, My back, The arm above my eyes. Black streets Akin to bed sheets Full of tears and muffled cries, screams I wasted. Days I pretended The sun didn’t exist and I could sleep till it stopped Stinging Like pins and needles, Numbing, Like Novocain. And still, it rains. And the air is like your breath. Warm, safe, soft. Do you remember How it felt, alone, Eyes closed, Held tight, Loved? I’d rather not. I’d rather exist here, In the dark, In the night. Dreaming. Hopeful that Someday I’d wake. © 2010 Penny EllenReviews
