Goodbye to the Boy who Promised me Forever and Didn’t Deliver

Goodbye to the Boy who Promised me Forever and Didn’t Deliver

A Poem by Penny Ellen

You drop those words in perfect fashion,

As if they excuse you from your infraction.

Convincing,

You strive to be

Honest,

But all you are is lying.

As if any of this does any good,

You justify

With a phrase that

Kills me inside.

“But I still love you.”

Really, it’s you not knowing what you want

After pretending like I was just that.

Have we changed so much,

That each other is not enough?

After waiting, stealing, lying, believing and

Turning over every leaf we fucked up,

Is it still insufficient to sleep until we wake each other?

Because you have stolen yourself away from me,

Convincing

Only yourself

Into believing

That only yourself

Is the way you need

To be.
