Homophobia is Wrong

Homophobia is Wrong

A Story by Penny Ellen
"

Let's just say i'm emotionally attatched to this cause.

What really disgusts me is how narrow-minded people can be, especially when it comes to homosexuality & bisexuality. Chances are that everyone knows 1-3 homosexual or bisexual people and they may or may not know it. Yet, there are still homophobic people out there, babbling & screaming their heads off about how wrong, gross, unnatural, immoral, etc. it is to feel an attraction to the same or both sexes. People still prefer a “perfect” reality over a “real” reality. They choose to believe it either doesn’t happen or shouldn’t happen because it’s different. The insults, the disgust, the disrespect, the bashings; the hate, all of it directed towards their own kind, simply because of a sexual attraction or desire that’s different from theirs. Is it any wonder why more suicides of gay & bi teens & adults have become more common?

I guess if hating people for their sexually inclined differences is moral, I can hate everyone who enjoys fingering. But I don’t. What about oral? Or 69? I still don’t. Do I bash people who prefer romance over bondage? No. I don’t believe I have a right to. There’s more to people than their sexual preferences.

The same parents who told their children that “Everybody’s different” and that they should “Play nice with the other kids” are becoming the same parents who ex-communicate and disown their teenage sons or daughters who want to have relationships with members of the same sex. When will the hypocrisy end?

People say that it’s “dangerous” a lot of the time, but how is it more dangerous than a heterosexual desire? What people choose to do with it could be dangerous, yes. But how many girls & young women get raped every year? How many young boys are brought up with poor female role models and parental figures? Sexual desire in itself is dangerous.

As for it being “unnatural”, what is more natural than a sexual urge? Not much.

And “Immorality”? You can’t force others to conform to your morals. Remember, everybody’s different.

If you can’t accept reality, realize that everybody’s different & play nice with the other kids, you can get the hell off my playground.

Yes/No, Stay/Go. Your choice.

Author's Note

Penny Ellen
I wrote this in high school. I actually did a term paper on why gay marriage should be legalized and equal to heterosexual marriage in the US later. I had to go back to this and re-check my souces.

Wowh... There's you going off all profound again - that's a double-take sentence if ever there was one...
This well extends beyond your anger on this subject matter! It's almost:
'people prefer illusion to reality' - and people ARE reluctant to face the truth and would rather face a life with half truths and lies - this extends well beyond sexual inclination
mmm, interesting...
'...you can get the hell off my playground.'
...you tell 'em! ...destined to have a 'voice'?

Well-expressed. Sexual 'deviancy' is so subjective - about as much as judging the normal way to wipe your arse. Whoever makes the rules is basing it on their own experiences, but we're all different.

"If you can't accept reality, realize that everybody's different & play nice with the other kids, you can get the hell off my playground." - strong way to finish.

"Is it any wonder why more suicides of gay & bi teens & adults have become more common?" - this sentence is phrased a little awkwardly. Maybe you could use the sources you mention to provide us with a statistic, or just remove one of the "mores" to make it flow a bit better?

Good piece; balanced mixture of opinion and objective reflection.
Thanks for sharing it [and thanks for your review].

Well put. I also did a paper on homophobia in High School. I find it pointless to hate someone based on the gender of the person that they go out with.

I think that you are completely right!!!!! People are more than their sexual preference and we should realize that we have no right to tell others how to live or to jugde them!!!!!!!!

I agree. People no matter the gender should be allowed to be able to experience love the way they wish, without being told it's wrong. I can see not wanting to put together the church and homosexuality together for religion purposes but when two people love each other and want to make it official I think it should be allowed. That's what love is after all. I enjoyed reading your opinion on this matter, very powerful indeed. Great write.
