Sometimes I Just Want to be (With) Myself

Sometimes I Just Want to be (With) Myself

A Poem by Penny Ellen

I like my music raw
And my steak Medium-well,
I like my coffee bitter.

I like my nights cold
And my days dark.
I like my men soft.

I like my downers;
My booze in bottles,
My heart sinking in my chest
But no regrets.

Time consumed with
Feelings of a depth only sadness touches.

And I don't want rescue,
I don't want happy,
No sir.

My solace and I are best off alone.
Aches and mistakes all it takes
Is a taste like your face
And a clean erase.

Bitter, broken record
Skipping beats to keep me singing.
