From the past of me To the presence of I

From the past of me To the presence of I

A Poem by Kris

I began with…

A little girl who dreamt up fantasies,

And lived in her imaginary box

In a family so small

There were never any secrets

In a life that was so normal

She was bored from day one

To a child

With a fascination for movies

From The Little Princess to Anastasia

And a passion for books from the beginning of time to the end

A love for food,

And a hunger for knowledge

A yearn to be anywhere

Besides her home town of Winchester, Virginia

A desire to  be known

And a need to be remembered

To an adolescent

Who smiles politely and says thank you

Who dances around her room

When no one is home

Who is quiet and compassionate

But on the inside just wants to be free

And I became…

A teenager with a mind of her own

But who knows when to bite her tongue

Who speaks with sarcasm

And smiles with genuine happiness

Who still has a problem deciphering reality,

That is not helped by her obsession with fiction,

That ranges from Wuthering Heights to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Who still loves the Lion King

And all of her childhood stuffed animals

Who loves her typical-suburban family

But who devours the diversity of her friends

Who will never stop being

The little girl she once was

Because she refuses to forget

Her past

Oh I really like this. Each section is like a little snapshot. I see myself in this piece. I'm 28 and I still won't let go of my past. It is what makes you who you are. Mistakes and all. I think that's part of what make me able to write. That inability to let the past be the past, memories as sharp as the day they were created. As a result I have an...ecclectic personality. I keep everything. lol

I love this! I get so caught up in books as well and sometimes it feels like I'm apart of one.
This was a really neat poem. Excellent work!

This is wonderful! Nice to meet you. I lived in books as a girl, too. Any book would do.
