When We Become Butterflies

When We Become Butterflies

capitulating

deeper into my element

losing myself in the chaos

immersing myself in panoramic vertigo

silver linings

and glasses half-empty

this is perpetual metamorphosis

the road unfolding

my spine unraveling

antipathy and misanthropy

the cynics burn down the world

they turn away from the ashes

the phoenix rises

inside there is no outside

and the fire is contained in the conscience

ankle-deep in receding irony

a hundred years from now

I’ll be a faded part of history

nothing left behind

no shoes to  fill

perspicuous hills and valleys

the probability of miscalculation

lies in its own equation

the fate of science up in the air

we’re just a mass

of time bombs and wishful thinking

exploring eccentricities

collaborating similarities

and I’m just capitulating

deeper and deeper into my element.
