Just One

Just One

A Poem by Mariah
"

What makes you think that you're alone?

"

Six and a half billion

Six and a half billion

People

People

People

And who are you?

Sorry,

But you’re only ONE.

Just another dissension

Just  another reinvention

Just another broken heart

Just another unspoken mind

You’re just one more lie

Just one more try

To get it “RIGHT”

Just another humiliation

You’re just one brilliant creation

Just another in need of a second chance

Just another who claims you “can’t”

Just another who has ever dreamt of more

Slammed a door

Repeated war

Stood for something worth fighting for

You’re not the only one anymore.

Just don’t be the one

To make the mistake of thinking

You’re alone.

Six and a half billion

Six and a half billion

People

People

PEOPLE, really.

You’re just one.

ahh, so many layers within this piece...you blew my mind, really.

"You're not alone" - of course. The obvious one, but still, you make it a point to place an emphasis on the internal struggles people face... Everyone seems to think their suffering is unique. You did an excellent job saying, "suffering is human nature, and we all know what it is"

"You are one" - the duality of this statement is stunning. yes, you are simply one:

"Just another humiliation
You're just one brilliant creation
Just another in need of a second chance
Just another who claims you "can't"
Just another who has ever dreamt of more"

One is such a meaningless, daunting number. People automatically assume that one is powerless, nothing special in a world concerned with numbers.

However, you bring "one" into another realm with this poem.

'PEOPLE, really.
You're just one."

How right you are. We ARE one, in our suffering, in our solitude, in our depression, and in our causes. So often people forget to realize, we are all human, and we all share in the same spectacle that is life and death. Together, we are human, and in being human, we are one.

Whether or not I interpreted this piece correctly, I thank you for sharing. You've just encouraged me to think, relate, and respect my fellow man a bit better. Beautiful, moving, eloquent...I look forward to reading more of your work.
