This Year

This Year

A Poem by Mariah

Another year gone

A new one waits unscathed

If only for a moment

Our dark history fades

Young and innocent

Tragedy strikes

First in a long line of blemishes

This year will suffer

Another lesson

This year will learn

The hard way

And then forget tomorrow

There will be pain

There will be heartbreak

And war and

Taxes, too

There will be life

And peace

And abundance

And maybe a little healing

This year we start new

This year is for me

This year is for you

The sun will shine

And the rain will fall

As I will

But every time we get up

The sun dries our weary skin

This year we cry

This year we lie

This year we smile

This year we must survive

for just 365 more days

Survive with me

THIS YEAR.
