The Grass Is Always Greener

The Grass Is Always Greener

A Poem by Mariah

Sometimes I can understand

things like grass

better than I can even begin to comprehend

this world of ours

for grass doesn't strain

to reach the pearly white gates

grass does not fear

that it will reside in the lowest levels of hell

because grass only grows

just how it knows

not to be the tallest blade-

but just to grow

unlike our overcomplicated system

with requirements

     laws

                        expectations

and the utter shame of failure

and so looking down at my feet

standing atop the grass

I suddenly have more respect

for the terrain that   turns  my   socks   green

maybe if we could see the world like grass

perhaps we'd notice the beauty

of sweet  morning   dew

dark,  rich   soil

and the sun's  generous  rays

but instead we see our own

                    hunger

           and poverty

war and pain

thinking we're so superior

yet wallowing in the most pity

so I step aside to the concrete

determined not to flatten the

"simple organism"

Who is perhaps

A bit wiser than we thought

i guess the grass is always greener....

on the other side.

The simplicity of the subject matter made complex and insightful speakes of a true poet who sees the world through different eyes as most. More should stop and smell the roses and give thanks for what little they have. Because the grass only looks greener on the other side. Kudos.
