Crosswalk To Conformity

Crosswalk To Conformity

A Poem by Mariah

there they are waiting

waiting for my conformity

waiting for me to pass the road

of individuality

stuck in this intersection

my heart flashes DON'T WALK

there they stand expectantly

on the other side of Adolescence Ave.

horns blaring

choose your path

green, yellow, red light

they beckon me to cross

and for a moment I imagine

imagine it through their eyes

the only way they've ever seen it

always a contest

always a game

one you just never win.

and then i remember

the other street

that other road

that sits so pleasantly in my sight.

          and I smile.

standing up a little straighter

my feet pivot with force back around

and they start to carry me

in no absolute direction

towards the street they call Singularity.
