Beauty Is Only 100 Feet Deep

Beauty Is Only 100 Feet Deep

A Poem by Mariah

"Beauty is only skin deep"

they always say

And yet my skin seems pretty thick

How am I expected to compete with this?

these frail, thin bodies

and standardized faces

I'll never measure up to their criteria.

So what am I doing here?

Why bother trying?

To gain acceptance

to this elite club

with my untanned skin

and my fashion flubs

Because beauty is not skin deep

to the world of the teenage girl

instead it's as deep

as we are shallow

it's all about the look

it's all about broken mirrors

it's all about self-destruction

it's all about too many tears

it's all about perfection

you know you won't acquire

because beauty is one of those things

that's too deep down to find.
