listen deep

A Poem by reilly ann conway

listen deep
cried out as the door
creaked closed,
the kind of cry
that makes the
head heave in its own
awful acrid now,
no no boils over into
fluent blue branches.
linoleum seams
scream beneath bare feet
held fast in clenched hands
from the cold cold floor.
half moon light in the
small locked room
shows hurried fingerprints
smudged on the foggy pane.
stars in the night sky
eyes in the distance.
