A Poem by reilly ann conway
"

I wrote this about my ex husband, four years before we got married.

"
I saw him
converted into a
series of ones and zeroes,
a program
designed for a niche market
that didn't include my demographics.
His hands
became
sharp edges.
He lost
the curves that
made him human.
His world was divided
with a thick black line,
reduced to offon switches.
Shades and shadows weren’t allowed;
he preferred the definite colors,
prescribed reactions of his computer
to my unpredictable liquid mind.
His user manual strictly forbade fiancees.
His words flew out of his mouth
haphazard and
s  p  l  i  t
into letters
which departed
and were replaced by
sterile numbers.
0110011010011010
I loved
a man
summarized by math.
