I Am That Monster

I Am That Monster

A Poem by rehab

You lay there sleeping, your eyes shut tight.
It's like a barrier, a force field you turn on at night.
You hope to push out the fears,
the little things that might be creeping near.

You see, if you open your eyes,
you might shriek and scream out your cries.
You hope to never see me as I really am,
so you close your eyes, but all it is, is a scam.

I can never be what you want.
I am that monster, the one who haunts.
I am truly sorry, I can't stop who I am,
so if you must, close your eyes, change me in there,
but I am still that monster, the one who's really here.

I take it to mean that someone is abusive and hurts you and scares you, but you always try to change their image inside and make them look different then they are even though you really know who they are. I like it.
