a wedding & a funeral

a wedding & a funeral

A Chapter by Regina K. Pride

on the horizon far out in the east coast
moving steadily towards me

was a ship drifting with the wind
and the waves were strong enough to carry it away.
a ship in a bottle floating on air
carrying secrets like how to hold things
without them shattering to the ground
but some ideas are meant to be broken
like the bow of a ship stripped of its identity
the harsh ways of the storm beating it against all sides
on one side you see Heaven's bright lights and
castles in the sky and underneath you
there’s hell but sometimes it’s a beautiful idea,
you won’t always have a home here on earth.
Other times it’s scary:
you're either cruising through the sky with angels
or you’re falling from that sky
crash burning to where you belong.
Somehow you aren’t there yet
and you may never touch those burning flames.
I still want a taste of my own medicine,
but flames don’t suffice under water
and the ship is sturdier than anything I have ever touched.
Close my eyes to forget existing,
forget this shi(p)
