Rights to Me

Rights to Me

A Poem by A

You have NO right to Me

I am Not Yours

There is No ownership

I am a privilege

You don’t get to be the

King

In my life

Taking over

My chapters

Writing

My story

No more ruling

I get a say

I don’t owe you anything

You chose to have me

I have Not chosen you

My love

My respect

My trust

Must be earned

What I am

And

What I will be

Is not owed

Or a product of you

What was my past?

And is my present

Will no longer take

Control

Or be my future

I am stronger

Every experience

Every tear

All the pain

All the blame

No longer

Is in your power

Your rights have

Been

Stripped

Take a moment

To Not mistake

My independence

My need for distance

As ungrateful

I appreciate

The shelter

The food

The education

That will not be forgotten

You won’t let it

However being

Unable to be safe

In my own home

In what was bestowed

Upon me

Takes reign

In my anger

My sadness

My disappointment

My heights lowered

Expectations sunk

There is very little fight

Left

            In me

For a war that seems

Endless

And to be honest

Quite pointless
