Love Sonnet XXX

 

 

Eternity is a very long time,

but, there she was, lazing around

in long-forgotten poetry books,

looking for words, metaphors,

 

and some of those similes that

make you cry, but wanting more.

Eternity is like yesterday, when

I met her talking to the Beats,

 

Singing this crazy, jazzy, Blues

fusion melody that tasted just

like Johnny Walker Black, neat.

 

Eternity is a very long time,

but captured by a flaming pen

and spread naked on this page.

The muse finds pages in which to sleep, like being covered by one big blanket of metaphorical poetry...

In line six did you mean "make"---I read it as that.
Are all poets mad? or just a few of us. Words bounce off rubber walls and hit us in the head...then we write.
Poe said " I am a writer therefore I am not sane."

In the words of our friend Sami K., WOW!! No, we are not sane, how could we be in a world so F'd up?? (I too, relate to that Poe quote)

The Muse gets, what the Muse wants! It's illusion to think we control the pen in our hands.

I thought about the make/makes conundrum. Even my Grammerly suggested I change to 'make'. The reason I stayed with 'makes' was I was trying, without using the word, to add alliteration to that list (words, metaphors, similes, yesterday, Beats). But 'make' is better grammar and it does roll off the tongue when reading out loud. AH HA, perhaps the Muse is not all knowing after all!! er... did I just say that out loud?? HELP, Jacob, the Muse wants to bop me on the head....
