Love Sonnet V

Love, you come from the land of arroyos,

mesas that hold mud-formed adobes

and Kachina dancers who

chase away Skinwalkers.

Love, the wind whips your dark hair

as it travels through the darkness

of Canyon de Chelly and the ancient pueblos

surrounding you with their ghosts.

Love, your skin, your hair, your woman’s scent,

is of this homeland and the Anasazi

who once lived there.

Love, new earth awaits you,

your green touch and

your return to my outstretched heart.

this is an enchanting prayer. we call love into our lives through a bit of magic, we all do consciously or not. there's a few references to places i didn't get but i assume they are fantastic worlds -- oh brave new world that has such creatures in it.
i've been writing a few love poems myself and i'd be lying if i said i don't take inspiration from you.

I smell people. On the famed 'River Walk' on the Detroit River, where the ethnic festivals are given; where the Indian girls dance in their native frolic of feathers and hoops, I stopped to smell the dancers resting along the railings. There is something heroically tantalizing about the scents of different cultures. It was lovely and I was alarmed. I grew up in a house with the constant of pork neckbones boiling. So different scents are a truth (like poetry) only known through faith or revelation. And in your second stanza, you speak of that same "revelation" while traveling through the darkness of love's literary sacrament. I'm excited. Beautifully written. dana.
