There is darkness in loving you,

a fierceness that has roots in black soil,

and found only in the deepest forest,

in the recesses of my heart.

 

A heart that beats for you,

like a low-hanging moon

on a Spring cooled night,

keeping time with secret shadows

 

that move as you move,

sing as you sing of lonely

borrowed time and lost kisses.

 

Yes. Love, you sing a lonely song

that I spread on my lips,

and find your moonlit shadow.

wonderful imagery and full of mystery. this unconventional romance, represented as a moonlit forest, was engaging and a little thrilling to read about. there are no hints that all is going to end well, yet the irresistability of pursuing this dark horse is completely relateable. 'There is a darkness in loving you...' who cannot understand what this line means? superbly written, this is a nerve tingling sonnet.

Thank you Ern. Since we are gifted with farsight, I think there is always risk and shadows when we fall in love. But in some good ways this is the way it should be. We get to experience each other this way, savor the taste of her lips, feel the touch of her hands on your face, dance with abandon. All because we do not know what life will bring us and those shadows are always lurking. I am glad you enjoyed the tingling Ern.
