A Neruda-esque love sonnet

Love Sonnet I

Your words were not of the moon,

or the fire of a Rose song

full of blood and wine,

or of the shadows in the melody;

yet, in this yellow moment,

when flowers climb through my window,

and their fragrance is of you

after a Spring rain;

how may I love you,

like lips in a time

when your hips moved with mine,

and in that hour,

there was nothing,

yet the world was born.

Author's Note

I started a series of love sonnets in the style of Neruda, one of my favorite poets. He wrote 100 Love Sonnets; this one is the first for me and perhaps I will make it to 100.
Thanks for reading

the first of the love sonnets, and it starts off with a bang. this captures that excitement of falling in love and not being able to find the words to express that feeling. as the hapless love-sick patient clumsily stammers to try and get out this emotion, we accidentally come up with the most beautiful phrases. i was in the mood of for something sweet, and this was my crème brûlée.

thanks so much for your kind words on this poem, Ern. It is much appreciated.
This is such a good start...This is my kind of sonnet...free verse, full of such life...pulling away
from strict format...
and what a great ending to it....I like poems that end with a "Pow"!
