Dark Winds

Dark Winds

Dark Winds

A dark wind

blew through the arroyo

whipping up dry sand,

and tumbleweed,

it made coyote howl

and seek shelter.

Life on the Res

was hard;

witches,

skin walkers,

stalked the land

and the people.

No one was immune.

At night,

sheep would disappear,

sacrificed;

disease,

walked to the

tunes Kokopelli played.

Even the ‘trickster’

hid his flute at night.

A dark wind

blew through the arroyo

with thoughts

of world conquest.

Redzone,

A beautifully constructed piece of ever so ominously mysterious Poetry that I did find most enjoyable to savor and read ...

This sounds like the beginning of a Tony Hillerman novel. The mystery and the intrigue are there and enough to make the reader wonder. The midwest, the mojave desert, the painted desert are all filled with strange events and stranger myths and people. This is short but I like it very much.

World conquest....generations of people have dreamed of this. Kokopelli is a fertility G-d. Perhaps his flute was mesmerizing his people enticing them into passionate liaisons. More people = more possible domination. There is a darkness to this one, Curt. Not sure what exactly to make of it. Certainly a "nice" write. Lydi**

A question that seems to have no answer, my friend.
I love legends especially from the Natives. They are full of life and mystery as your poem wonderfully conveyed. I feel some prophesying and some resignation to future events. No balance until justice is served, then the scales will balance.
Excellent my friend even with dark tones.

That was an interesting and unusual display of visions. I think that that "Trickster" may have had something to do with it, flute-wise. --- Thanks!
