Writing You Poetry

The snow came down

in rapid fire,

stung when it hit my face

and reminded me

of your final words,

“We were supposed to last forever.”

It was one of those Winter storms,

a Nor’easter,

that crippled everything,

including my heart.

It was followed by blustery winds

that drifted the snow

into banks,

making it impossible to move,

or find warmth.

It was six years

before Spring arrived

and I dug myself out,

face thawing in the midday sun.

Snow still covered the ground,

making a surreal scene

as Crocuses pushed through the crust,

Daffodils swayed in the breeze,

and Iris’s draped themselves limply

over the fence.

What made this picture

even more strange,

was you,

sitting on my stoop,

smiling that icy smile while saying,

“Will you stop writing me poetry.”

Thank you, Frederick for your kind words...
Bitter-sweet, but funny! Our experiences are there to be written about - good or bad, pleasant or painful. An inventive and slightly surreal poem!

Strange what drives us to write. For many it is love for me it is loss, that deep feeling of grief seems to sit well with my muse.
Enjoyed your words sir
