The Teller's Chindi

The Teller's Chindi

A Poem by redzone
"

....a question of balance

"

The Teller’s Chindi

blown by ancient winds,

wanders through the arroyos

and mesas.

His anger rose

with each sun,

as the ‘Old One’s’ stories

dissolve within the cliff pueblos,

and is eaten by coyote’s breath

among today’s Dine.

He is angry,

his spirit roams,

can not find a place to rest.

He longs to tell

of Spider Woman,

Na’ ashj ii Asdz,

the woman who wove the universe

into being;

taught the people the “Beauty Way”,

and the balance between all things.

The Teller's Chindi is angry

because so few

knew how Monster Slayer

and Born To Water

slayed Ye’iitsoh

near Mt. Taylor.

Without the ‘telling’,

and weaving the Origin stories,

Ye’iitsoh has risen again.

Without the ‘telling’,

the Beauty Way and balance

has been broken.

The world is in grave danger

and the Teller’s Chindi

is angry, with no place to rest.

Thank you for sharing this work my friend. I enjoy reading the folklore of Native America and the tales of the Navajo. There is such a beauty in the culture which resonates its love for nature and how spirit of all things reside therein. Thank you for sharing your art.
