you ripped through my veins

surging a high

that even the sky

could not hold

I saw your notes

enter my brain

feeling their heat

carrying me into a musical myth

playing on guitar riff clouds

and blue string chords

you thought

you sent me into death’s oblivion

but here I am

still breathing the stubbornness

of a poet who

fights daily with words

and synapses of foul vowels

stringing together

like yesterday would never end

and tomorrow is an act

of mutiny against the god eros

who lost aphrodite to

that witch meduesa

after she cut off perseus’ head

 

alive

still

middle finger salute

to the american dream

a f**k you to the red white blue

nightmare shadow

cast across the globe

an empire headed for a show down

and I remain alive

to see it fall

they can't catch me to cut that finger off Jacob... and while a show down is coming it is not yet written who will win, what kind of society we will have... but we do have a lot to say about this and the outcome.... won't be easy ut then no real change is.... and by the way, your poetic voice will be needed today and in 20 years....

Poetry (not poets) is what defends us from this world disguised as just another piece of fabric used to conceal an object. It's 'veil' serves as both figurative-theatre and religious gas-lighting. Yet, like religion, it deserves both our devotion and faith to keep it plausible. Few can afford a mortgage anymore. Not in San Francisco and not in Flint or Detroit. People live in tents on LA streets while young trans girls turn to prostitution as their first choice of sustenance. Eventually, something has to give.

Under further inspection, this poem started as a love poem both from inspection and it's disguised pretext. And talk to any American and they will tell you of the love-hate relationship they are having with even the easiest of communicated symbols. The Taliban, Immigrants flooding over the border from Honduras, the fires in California, the floods in the Midwest , the tornado's in the heartland, Covid and it's booster shot, Billionaires going into space, George Floyd, Asian hate or any other of the Gorgons you referenced. This is not a poem of any cynical bloodletting. This is truth; this is how it all may end......dana

I think for most (not all) people who live in this country start out loving it, or thinking it's the best we humans can aspire too.... and then we come to strip away the veneer the myths and see the ugly reality of americaa and how it develop its capitalism/imperialism and after throwing up, come to hate everything about it, if they don't turn away from the truth they see.... and more they see and want it's downfall, see its cruel and acute individualism as a big part of the atrocities you mention along with a system that cannot be reformed in any meaningful way (how many more body cams do we need to see that the murder of people of color (mostly) IS the job that the police are SUPPOSED TO DO!!!)... as a child of the 60's I never forgot where the wealth comes from and not only rise a middle finger, but work to bring about that show down... and with the country so divided, this show down approaches and will end in radical change, one way or another... the essential "freedom" we have is which side will you be on????

Whoeee! Tough words about waking up America before it is too late. We all should know that any nation or empire cracks from within then is finished off from without. America and Americans should wise up before it is too late, work for justice, freedom and equality for all, which in turn will bring back this country to its strong roots, reaping the fruit in due times. WE need to put The Great Spirit before money, greed, fast this and fast that...Whoa! Long subject.

when you look anywhere in the world and see the horror and suffering that literally billions of people face, you cannot help wanting to end that suffering, to root out the cause of that suffering to see where all that suffering comes from... to shout out in anger yes, but to do something about it.... America was never great and sits on top of this capitalist system that is the root cause.... in the name of humanity, how can we allow all this to continue one day longer???
