Fallen

Fallen

Fallen

          “You and me

           I can see us dying,

           are we?”

                 ---No Doubt (song “Don’t Speak”)

Autumn leaves,

those orange, red, yellow

and brown specters

of decay,

laid scattered on the ground

when I first met you.

My world fell out of balance

in the mist and mystery

off your red hair,

blown by an October breeze;

and the freefall was complete.

Continuing rapidly

with the meeting of lips,

the silky touch

of your fingertips

running, caressing

through my hair.

I was fallen.

Laid out,

opened,

and bare.

It’s ironic

that the end would come

in Spring,

when flowers bloom,

and everything feels fresh,

clean, inviting.

Springtime

betrayal, lies.

These are hard words to digest.

Days grow longer,

colors more vibrant,

but all I could see

and feel,

was hollow.

Autumn decays;

Winter freezes your bones.

But,

sometimes, it is in Spring

that love dies.

This is poignant heartwrenching relatable and surprising. The intensity of the "falling in love" stage (at first) was so startlingly fresh & complete, I had forgotten there was any seasonal link in your storyline, so when you tied that part up nicely, as well as the love story, I felt like I'd just read the perfectly structured poem chock full of authentic emotion! Bravo! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

great song...

there is such irony in this write concerning love and the seasons...

like the ironic poem and title..."the widow's lament in springtime" by william carlos williams...
when he talks of death during a season when new life should be springing up...

Winter as a season, but also as a feeling can certainly freeze our bones.
