Time’s Memory

Walking through Time’s memory,

I remember,

the sway of hips,

the taste of strawberry lips,

everything you would say;

you took my breath away.

The world was on fire,

everywhere societies exploded

and pulsed with change,

with revolutionary zeal

and a desire for a better world.

You held me close,

and said,

     “sweet hearted man,

      we belong in this fight;

      to brave the night

      and bring forth a rosy light.”

My heart was ablaze,

how could I refuse

attempting to climb these heights;

you took my breath away.

Amidst the swirl of liberation,

our kisses defied

the rules of conventional wisdom

and tradition’s chains.

We entangled

in the new reality,

skin to sweaty skin,

dreaming of a new day;

you took my breath away.

Time changes,

old conventions were too strong,

the mountain became too steep,

we were not able to reach the heights.

But, Time’s memory

still roams my mind;

this heart still feels your sway

and the events of those days.

I remember

how you took my heart away,

all those years ago

and have it still.

love the poem...i am on Washington Street in Lockport with my old girlfriend Cindy...and we are in the moment...unfortunately that moment ended due to different circumstances...but i don't think for either of us the feelings ever totally went away.
