Humanity’s Demise (For Earth Day)

As the world evolved

from primordial soup,

agitated by alien microbes,

hitch hiking on meteors, comets

and happenstance,

to the emergence

of conscious beings,

humanity’s footsteps

left deep trails.

We altered the landscape,

created empires

that rose and fell,

until today.

Today, our footprints

are so vast and wide,

we have unleashed through

anarchy and chaos,

the chase for maximum profits,

our own demise.

We will extinct ourselves,

not from meteors,

or solar storms,

nor some alien invasion,

but from the small,

the unseen,

those viruses and bacteria,

once balanced in nature,

now let loose on the world

by the laws of supply and demand,

by a system of capital-imperialism.

Long gone are the People

who painted on cave walls,

waged no wars for empire,

and could talk with nature,

animals,

and the night sky.

As sad as this may seem,

the Earth sighed a

breath of relief.

I have often wondered on the people who drew on cave walls and some of those drawings were and still are prophetic in nature :) I of course love this piece and have missed reading your writing Redzone...Gaia has her own plans and shall reign regardless with or without humanity, she is the true power that is and shall ever be and is claiming back her lands. Skies have cleared, storms naturally cool the air, the animal kingdom are happy and roam freely and trees are thankful for room to stretch undisturbed. The next stage will always be up to the people as well as the powers that be but the people have forgotten they have their say and their actions count towards the whole picture :) Brilliant poetry as always hon, magnificent :)

this is amazing....makes me want to write a poem on a cave wall.
i really like how "extinct" is used as a verb here. Maximum profit gained from your use of language.
where are we going, Curt? From here?
I tried to hitchhike on a meteor once, but unfortunately it just sped by, so i gave it the finger.

Think you're right. Blue skies have appeared, you can breathe better now.
