….how do you look.....

Perspective

Looking out my cabin’s window,

the Atlantic spread out

as far as the eye could see.

It was a western glance,

with the color a deep royal blue;

its waves rising, falling,

rising, falling majestically

and seemed to be

kissing the horizon,

waving silently

as the ship cuts through its peaks.

This was in stark contrast

to the lighter shade of sky blue

that hung overhead

with its, off in the distance,

white puff clouds.

We were alone

in the vast watery blueness.

And yet,

below us,

the waters teemed with diverse life,

as I realized

I was home.

Home,

where millions of years ago

all life on this planet began.

In the causality

set in motion by the big bang,

perhaps riding on a meteor,

alien microbes found their way here,

sparking the evolutionary process

of Life.

As I climbed to the top deck,

and looking down,

the ocean seemed calmer;

the undulating waves seemed smoother

and I was amazed at how easily

it is to see reality

from different perspectives.

While there is only one reality,

the diversity of perspectives

gives it a richer, fuller meaning,

making it more awe inspiring, if,

you dare to seek its inner workings.

Ironic,

as some say,

looking deeper,

more scientifically,

takes away from life’s beauty

and mystery.

Nothing could be less true.

Unlocking life’s mysteries,

understanding reality

in all its connectedness,

not only allows us a richer,

more beautiful life,

but also, an understanding

we humans can change

our world and ourselves;

unleash our spirit from its cell!

Nothing could be more beautiful!

I'm remembering something I read recently from Lydia where she shared a photo she took on a cruise & the sky was light blue with clouds, whereas the sea was a darker blue with the wake of the ship centered in the photo. Your poems have the similarity of noting the blue horizon dividing sky & sea. The thing I love about noticing perspectives (as your message here wisely counsels) . . . you perceive completely different layers of existence than Lydia did, while you both are looking at almost the same kind of ocean view. I love how different poets can write about the same thing & it is often wildly different. It's fun to play with perspectives in writing & reading (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Philosophy and the beauty of nature rolled up into an extremely "nice" poem, Curt. There is something cleansing about watching the ocean and feeling the rocking of the ship beneath your feet. Understanding reality though....does anyone truly understand reality or want to accept it? A question for the ages. I really enjoyed this one. Lydi**

Such stunning imagery. I felt transported. I'd love to take a cruise someday and feel like a small part of the big ocean.

...rising, falling majestically
and seemed to be
kissing the horizon,
waving silently ...
Beautiful image that I found very inviting.

have thought about cruises, but couldn't get enough dramamine...to survive the sea sickness...but thanks to you...i don't have to take the cruise...your words were vivid enough to transport me on a poetic cruise ship.
thank you for this beauty.
