Love in the Time of Katrina IIA Poem by redzone…..love can be destructive...Love in the Time of Katrina II
The air was stagnat with humidity, the pines and oaks stood stoically in the stillness and Medea fell hard for Jason.
Betrayal like the eye of Katrina, was first calm until the wind changed, spread, increased, intensified. Medea gave everything, including her brothers, so Jason could flee with his golden fleece. But Medea was left with the thunderous downpour of a hollow heart.
Betrayal Jason’s betrayal was social, complete, destructive; Katrina’s betrayal natural, unrelenting, catastrophic.
Betrayal though is the sticky humidity and category 5 force of a society deep in the storms of social inequalities and patriarchal traditions.
Betrayal even fourteen years later continues as black folks remain driven from New Orleans in category 5 oppression.
There is no love in betrayal, whether in the destruction of a natural disaster, or in the ugly social relations of men over women.
