Wiotekaka Wi

(The Moon of Hard Times)

Daydreaming on the back porch,

sun just rising,

a Winter chill filled the air,

and the story began.

One moment I was alone,

the next, she sat down beside me,

filling the space

with her aura

and the scent of possibilities.

As the feel of her surrounded me,

I was swept away

to a small village café

in far away lands,

filled with old ghosts,

and woodland spirits.

Sitting across from her,

the conversation turned into night;

coffee and tea became

wine and ale,

as a full Blue Wiotekaka Wi

appeared on the horizon.

As it rose higher in the sky,

it eclipsed, then cried,

turning red with sadness,

as the conversation

came to an end.

Standing, I got up to leave,

noticed the note

written on the napkin

with ruby lip stick,

a broken half heart;

underneath, a ‘ve’.

Wiotekaka Wi

continued its journey,

unphased.

This reminded me a bit of Dan Fogelberg's song, "Another Auld Lang Syne". How two people sat drinking a six pack in a car, reminiscing over lost love and high school days. Oh, the daydreams of back porches, and the never ending "scent of possibilities". Thank you for taking me there, Curt!
