Rain Deer Moon

A Rain Deer Moon

hung low in the solstice sky

and my wolf spirit

howled at its fullness.

Its beams made the new fallen snow

sparkle in whiteness,

as the Rain Deer Moon

searched for its memory.

Memory, like the moon,

has its phases,

as well as a reflective nature.

In its full moon phase,

memory emerges from the shadow

like a wisp blown on the wind

and howls

to be taken home.

 Home,

where Winter lives,

where arms once held you,

now empty,

cold

and searching starless skies,

except for this Rain Deer Moon.

It’s 3:24 am,

and I can’t sleep;

kept awake by memories,

and the realization

my arms

will forever be empty,

alone,

except for this Rain Deer Moon

and the occasional Crow

sitting on my window sill.

The moon can haunt a person on a sleepless night. Seems the man on the moon knows all your memories and beams them down on such a night. The loneliness is palpable in between the lines. The emotions are so honest in this one, Curt....but that is no surprise coming from you. I always like celestial references in a poem. Lydi**

Great wanting in this write.
That horrible realisation of emptiness that for some reason always comes at 3 am and 4 am.

Memories of lovely bygone days, awakening realization. Your spirit searches for it in the wintery season, in full moon phases. Those full arms are empty, longing for reunification, for the lost ones.
Hoping your New Year will be wonderful and magical.
