Love & Jazz (Poem #19)

My record of Nina Simone

crackles and snaps with static

as her voice fills the air

with jazzy blues.

She reminds me of you,

your deep emotions

that flow on melancholy

notes hidden in your heart,

but now heard

soaring on the wind.

It reminds me how blues,

especially jazzy blues,

erupts melodiously

from the deepest love;

love of nature,

love of someone special,

and the crush of loss.

But mostly, it reminds me

how my heart beats

to the melody of you;

how your static ignites

the heat pulsing in my veins

inviting me to smile.

The interweaving of the music with the speaker's feelings was very effective. Liked especially the line describing how jazzy blues "erupts melodiously from the deepest love." Could almost hear the jazz in the background. Well done.

thanks John for your kind words...
Let me just say that I have missed a lot in the last year and a bit -- almost two, really. You've been honing your craft. Beautiful style, skill, and presentation. And while, alas, jazz isn't my thing, you make it relatable nonetheless.
