Always

Always

Always

This is a strange word-

‘always’;

“this always happens”;

“the stars will always shine”;

“why do bad things always happen to me”;

but the best one-

“I will always love you”.

Always, always,

always.

It’s like some exotic disease

that once said,

rots your skin,

steals your tongue

and eats you alive.

There is no cure for always,

it is always said in earnest,

and demands to be taken seriously.

Yet, there are times

when I wish I had never

said it.

Not because I didn’t mean it,

it was not said frivolously,

but because what I hoped

would be always,

turned out short lived.

And isn’t that life?

And life is,

in one form or another,

always

short lived.

I just wish

the always

of I love you

could fill the hole

that consumes my heart,

as I find myself

always alone again.

"always" too often turns into "never again"--
very sad commentary on how we too often promise when we aren't really sure we mean it...just words...

but speaking of words...damn, Curt, hate that you are talking about leaving---you are a mainstay at WC---
one of the most creative and kind people on the site.

There are no words to say how bad it feels to see your note about not posting here anymore. You will be sadly missed, for sure. This poem seems to be expressing something far beyond words on the page, but I won’t go into that. Just suffice to say that I have not believed in “always” for a very long time. Never use the word, never believe it when someone else uses it. But you’ve always been more idealistic & optimistic than me. Take care (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
