Sleepless Eyes

Sleepless Eyes

This night my eyes are sleepless

missing you;

these eyes won’t close,

they search for you

in the night’s shadows

of various hues.

They look through morning mist,

rolling down from the Black Hills

over the valleys and plains below

where nothing sacred is left.

My eyes are sleepless

missing you,

missing your flannel skin

and bare legs

that soak in the moon’s beams

as you walk the brown earth

of my dreams.

~~~
Some nights
I can see you standing
by the old oak,
filled with your feminine smile;
see you drinking from
clean mountain waters
refreshed by the blue orchids
woven in your hair.
I always think I could
reach out
touch you, feel your warmth
flow through my fingers,
but it is at this moment,
my eyes see darkness thicken the night,
see the longing
of missing you.
Palpable longing in every line of this one, Curt. The love you express is both spiritual and sensual. Love of nature is here as well "clean mountain waters...
refreshed by the blue orchids..brown earth" A true beauty of a write! Lydi**
