Paralyzed In Madness

Your shadow follows me

into starless nights;

into ancient forests

of gnarly hemlock;

it feeds me your stale breath

and surrounds me with

whispered bitter rage.

Every day I walk

brown crusted paths

barefoot in grey mist

listening to the harshness

of your voice,

with words accusing me of betrayal.

Even in this tower of my mind,

high above the world’s view

your fog and mist,

your words find me

strapped to the table

lashing me with confusion,

stinging my mind

with poisonous fire

and unholy desire

for your insidious lips.

In the distance

a muted scream echoes.

As it nears,

I hear its shivering melodies

and realize it’s me.

These shadows,

your voice,

my screams

keep me paralyzed

and here.

Sometimes we are stuck in a time warp...held there by emotions that are ironclad. The sharp edges of those emotions render us motionless. We know if we move at all, we will be cut deeply. The longing for what once was is strong in this one. Curt, your poetry is a tower of emotion and climbing it is a pleasure. Lydi**
