Romantic Love and A Charging Rhino
(A shout Out to Pryde and KL)

Into the valley of ‘romantic love’
charged the raging rhino.
She never asked why,
perhaps she just wanted to do and die?!

Let me throw out an agreement
to this cynical view:

The only thing I want to slay
are these words on which I play.
So, Pryde, and you too KL,
it is not for me to tell
romantic love is just pompus,
for I only want to make a rompus!!

So let that rhino gore,
and stomp romantic love to the floor.
Stomp! Stomp! Stomp it forevermore!
After all, a toga wearing cat,
a rhino in a dress,
and a philosophical misanthrope,
who could ask for more!!??

After Thoughts:

What is love
if not romantic?
Love does NOT = lust
or even a roll in the hay,
though sometimes lust plays in love.
Love is romance with the desire
to feel, touch, kiss-
a closeness;
the simple acts-
a smile or cuddle,
the listening and appreciation
of different views.
Romantic love can last a lifetime
if it is given simply.
Or, not stomped on by rhinos of any sort

Author's Note

it was a fun, tongue in cheek, poem that Pryde shouted out to KL and I thought to join the fun if that's okay... so here is my contribution to stomping on 'romantic love' with a 'white rhino'.... thanks for reading...

I love this, I can't believe I missed it!
There's a time and place for everything I guess and love comes when it comes.
True love is accidentally romantic I think. It's not the grand sweeping gestures of someone who wants desperately to impress so that they can be applauded for their efforts. Romantic love is those things you do because you want to. Like breakfast in bed, fresh flowers, a poem. Things that are 'in the moment' because you FEEL it, not because you planned it. Ok, some things need to be planned, like a vacation for example but it's mostly about the 'little' big things.

Picturing Morris wearing a toga....it would have to be a shade of peach to match his fur....hmmmm...where to buy this? Perhaps a philosophical misanthrope could lead me in the WRITE direction? :) Personally, I thnk when love is real, no rhino could ever stomp it out or gore it to death with his horn! Quite the romp here, but your poetry and your friendship have proven to me you are a romantic at heart Curt. Own up to it....wear it as proudly as the rhino wears his horn! :) I enjoyed the giggles here. Lydi**

Rhinos are killed for those Horns....mmm, there must be a connection of that thought to that Rhino charging into love---

did it have its eyes closed when it charged?

most of us do when we give up our single horn to mate...

Hahaha ... not to worry. As I told, Andrew, with romantic love I am not done. Just a little wiser with my head in the clouds and my gigantic pachyderm feet firmly rooted on the Savanah. I have to ask do they make flip flops for rhinos?

It does:):):)
It sounds like you're about as ambivalent toward romantic love as I am! One minute, it's being stomped under the hooves of a charging rhino & the next minute you're cuddling up to some sweet longings that would likely cause a rhino meltdown! I know the feeling, oh so well! I'm glad y'all were having some Friday night fun . . . while I was here sweltering in 100* temps until 9 pm! *whew!*
