Summer's Kiss

Summer's Kiss

A Poem by redzone

Summer's Kiss

It was the summer of ‘42,
her hair fell to her back,
streaked with sun light
and scented with salty air.
As her tanned toes
wiggled in the sand,
she turned and smiled-
a brown eyed, freckled smile,
pulling me
into a sea shell spiraling summer;
into a warm ocean’s kiss.

It's been a long while since I've seen this movie, so I'm reading your poem as if I'm seeing these ideas for the first time. I love the way you've set up the beach scene using all the senses, sparking all the romantic titillation of youth, and most especially, I love this line: "pulling me into a sea shell spiraling summer" . . . oh how I remember those youthful summers that practically defined my whole life, with lots of bored waiting in between times, waiting until the next summer arrives with more adventure & fun & romance! *smile*

Heavy sigh! That song puts me in a melancholy reflective mood. I think I have seen that movie 20 times. Adolescence is the time we compare all others to during our lifetimes. Life is unrestrained and there are no responsibilities and every day is an adventure.....this one being romantic. The tender sensuality in this is delightful. "a warm ocean's kiss"...mmmm...now that's very "nice". Great stuff, Curt. Lydi**

You perfectly capture all the sensuality of a summer kiss, the sand, the salty air, and if course her smile. Could you read my Lovesick.

We think nobody has seen such beauty or felt such feelings as we do. Yet I've seen the writings to prove otherwise.
You have written a testament to beauty. Thank you for sharing.

i think your poem is exquisite ... '42 is only a touch before me time ..but the thread runs through the fifties quite easily ... brings "A Summer's Place " to my mind ..i especially enjoy how the kiss is spiraled through a shell and to the sea ... and to a kiss .. nice experience to read ..well done says i!

Jennifer O'Neill, yes, yes and did I mention, yes. I can see where the inspiration came from. Your poem is beautiful and haunting. It brings back memories of summers at the shore, the boardwalk, great pizza and girls. It also brings to mind "The Girl from Ipenema". But that is just one of my favorites. Great writing.
