...unleash the fury of women, break all the chains.

Yellow Atrocity Screams

In the depth of night,

when all is silent,

I can hear you scream.

It’s a blood scream

not from a dream but

the reality of human atrocity.

This sound is yellow,

the shade often seen hiding in shadow,

or imagined while listening

to a morose Bach fugue -

organ music played

with demonic laughter.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 2013 findings:

     * 35% of women world wide have been victims of sexual   violence during their lifetimes;

     * Globally: intimate partners commit 38% of the murders of women;

     * An estimated one million children around the world,         mostly girls, enter the sex trade each year.

     * In the U.S., 20 - 25% of college women experience rape or attempted rape;

     * In the U.S., a woman is beaten every 15 seconds;

     * According to sexual violence experts, more than 3 women in the U.S. lose their lives at the hands of their partners         every day;

     * Since the incident where NFL player Ray Rice was caught on video assulting his fiancee over 600 women have been         killed by their partners.**

ALL this and so much more is why we need revolution and nothing less to end these horrors committed against half of humanity.

It's true....violence against women is often spoken of in whispers or in the shadows. It exists...and should not be tolerated anywhere. So many will say, "she made him angry" or "she was asking for it" when, in truth, no one asks for the atrocious acts perpetrated. The numbers are staggering and depressing...the title is perfect, as is the use of yellow as sound, and the image of a 'blood' scream is far more affecting than simply a scream...I was always conscious of these dark realities, but it's not until I came here and became friends with women who have experienced these yellow atrocities first-hand...it's changed me, and I'm far more responsive to works such as these than I ever was before...you clearly did your homework for this one my friend, which I know that many of our friends (for many of my friends are you friends and vice-versa) are more than grateful for...this is a poignant and powerful rallying cry of the highest order...I concur with KL in saying that this is a piece that simply cannot be missed...well done Curt...well-said, and well-written.

Wow, wow, wow. You had me from the title. Eerie for me for a number of reasons ... The use of the colour yellow in particular. There are reasons it can be an ugly colour, makes me think of bruises ... what a wonderful write, Curt, you need to find a woman's rights venue in which to post this, it is that powerful, hearing a man speak out. Bruises, yes thats an even better use of this color... how ugly is that KL.... many more men should stand along side women in this fight to end the oppression of women... and many more men should write poetry and be actively involved. Allen Ginsberg is one poet who stood strong in this fight.
