While Waiting For The Train #1

WHILE WAITING FOR THE TRAIN

She sat on the bench across from me,
blond-ish hair,
square, black rimmed glasses-
she was eating yogurt.
Wearing a red Phillies T
and worn jeans,
she sat with her legs crossed
provocatively.
(At least it seemed so to me)
Her slightly tan skin
whispered of summer warmth.
The back pack resting by her side
suggested she was coming,
or going-
perhaps where
the air smelled clean,
like Lilacs and Irises.

^^^

She looked way too young,
at least half my age,
yet there was a mature gleam
in her brown eyes.
She had that look a -
“don’t f**k with me,
I’ll eat you for breakfast
if you even dare try.”
Which, of course I found
instantly beautiful.
She was too - beautiful.
Not in that fake,
“dumb blond” way
or bourgeois display
found in those fashion zines
that tells us what beauty is supposed to be.
Rather, it was a beauty
that flowed easily inside out,
exuded strength
and a “yes, I am all that”;
a confidence
we don’t see enough these days.
She was beautiful
and such beauty is a magnet
for all who really care to see.

^^^

But, who is she?
What is her name and story?
Does she like poetry
or other forms of art?
And what would she do
if I got up
and showed her this poem?

^^^

Just then her train came;
she got up,
gave me a slight nod,
a seductive smile,
and I swear there was
a wistful gleam in her eye.
She had noticed my writing
and now I am left with only
her mystery
and so many what ifs.....

Splendid. You bring it to life for us, make us part of it. We have seen the poem and she hasn't. love the clean air and irises and lilacs bit, and a 'beauty that flowed easily inside out'

Omg I love it love it love it love it!!!!!!!!

Plus, I can totally relate, I ride the train an hour each way into the city.
So... It does happen. The looks, the smiles.

The fact that you may have gotten busted. Priceless, :)

Great imagery here Curt, I felt as though I was watching this scene unfold, ahhh.....the what ifs & if only's will always plague our hearts, no? We do mystery best, it's a luverly, albeit annoying, trait of ours. ;-)

I could picture her there, Curt....sitting in her red Phillies tee shirt and comfy jeans. Provocative is in the eyes and mind of the beholder, is it not? When skin whispers of summer warmth, it is soooo seductive.....like a breath of lilacs and irises combined. She sounded like a Joisey girl to me...don't mess with one! :) The natural sort of beauty you describe so eloquently with your detailed imagery is not the norm these days, but when you see it, well, it can take your breath away. A mysterious lady to be sure....and one who will tiptoe through your mind playing hide and seek for a while. Curt, it is truly a pleasure to read your words again. Forever "nice!". I hope all is well with you. Happy Father's Day. Lydi**

This is pretty damn cool... "don't f**k with me, I'll eat you for breakfast if you even dare try" Exactly the way I feel recently! Glad more girls are letting this side show now. I really like the glimpse inside a moment you experienced. I could see the woman in your mind and you told this very well.

I wonder what would have happened had she known she was an inspiration for such a beautiful poem...
Her slightly tan skin
whispered of summer warmth.
The back pack resting by her side
suggested she was coming,
or going-
perhaps where
the air smelled clean,
like Lilacs and Irises.
The images and feelings you create are lovely Curt. You are a romantic at heart. I love everything about this poem. My new favorite!
