one I wrote a while ago...

 

 

Extinction

(Written while listening to Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’

it is embedded in this poem)

 

Have you noticed

While they debate global warming

--whether it exists or not

--if it’s natural or man made

That whole species near extinction?

 

 

Have you seen how office furniture,

And cash crop farming

Have replaced rain forests;

The oxygen we breathe?

 

 

Have you seen how large

The hole in the ozone has grown?

Or, how glaciers melt so rapidly

At both North and South poles?

 

 

They argue and debate

While holding the world’s people hostage

To their profit driven world.

Let me ask, like Michael Jackson does:

“What about us”?

“What about the world we live in”?

What about the seas;

What about our future;

What about our dreams?

 

 

Have you ever noticed,

How those that care, lack passion;

Only write letters

And sign petitions.

While those that support

This planet wide rape,

Make the rules,

Write the laws,

Demonstrate in the streets!

 

 

Fear and arrogance = stupidity!

We are headed for extinction

Hoping to ride out the storm.

Let us, be the wind in this video!! Let us save

our planet. It is up to us to do this!!!

"Save the Planet" have been a battle cry since the first Earth Day in 1970. What happened to all those flower children when they grew up? Not all of them got jobs on Wall Street! Did they forget the causes they marched for in high school and college? We still need to save the planet.....and while your political views and mine are at different ends of the spectrum, that is something on which we agree. Powerful poetry with a great message. Lydi**
