Unsaid

Unsaid

A Poem by Anne Lockhart

Tired and worn
Spent and torn
You're a husband, you're a wife
You're a son, you're a daughter
Words won't come out
You're tongue-tied and messed up inside
You can't bring yourself to confront him or her
It's too much to even think about
You know what needs to be said
But you still lie on your bed
Rehearsing it over and over again
Time passes, and the things you thought would happen don't
You cry and you fight
You just can't seem to make it right
Do everything you can to hold it together
But it's not enough
It all falls apart
And you wonder which of you will pick it all up
Put it together and make it all better
But silence begins to overcome
And you wonder
How will it all ever come back together?
Remember how it all went down
Where you went wrong
Where you were out of line
And the only thing left is to apologize.

Wow, this is a very emotional and succinct glimpse into domestic arguments and tension. I can definitely relate to that struggle, and I imagine that others in unhappy households can as well, whether it's discord between their parents or even within their own marriage. There's always the issue when when one party refuses to acknowledge that they are at fault and then blame everything on their partner or their children to exempt themselves from blame. It's a frustrating circumstance, and you captured that well.

We have all been there. Some more than others. Sucks, really it does. I think this one, was speaking to me in some weird way. Knowing in the relationship part of my life is a crumble, just can't seem to get it right. Trying different things. I'll get it some day... anyway, awesome write!
