OrchestraA Poem by Westminster AbbeyJust a thing I wrote about an orchestra concert. Enjoy :)You feel like just a brick in a wall of sound But if you fail, the wall will collapse. You feel like all eyes are on you. The lights dim their faces, but it doesn’t help. You can still feel the stares. The conductor counts off, and you focus on getting it right. But then you play, and the world melts. You hit every note perfectly, checking ahead for the crescendos and codas. You hear the world around you, moving and flowing together in harmony. You are a brick in a wall of sound. Then suddenly, you can feel the stares. You can feel the eyes. You can feel the tension. You do the worst thing you can possibly do. You focus. Instead of hearing the wall as a whole, you see each individual brick. You are a brick. You can’t fail. The wall will collapse. You focus more intently. You hit every note perfectly, checking ahead for crescendos and codas. It’s all the same. The world melts once again. Before you know it, the song is over. Then comes the applause. Why are they applauding? You didn’t do anything. You realize they are applauding the wall, Of which you are a proud brick. And you love it. © 2012 Westminster AbbeyAuthor's Note
