Black Dog

Black Dog

A Poem by red.evangeline

this - wretched
thing this - ghost of a shadow of a
thing this - nameless thing that stalks me,
has stalked me since the white blur of childhood optimism
passed me by, taking with it the righteous and
all-powerful God that was supposed to
protect me, this -
creature,
a strange and familiar
Black Dog
half-starved and reeking of desperation
reeking of humanity
and utters only a silent shriek of
unbelongingness,
Hell
of all
Hells, and
I recognize in it the same
terrible longing for
Home
that echoes always
in the deep corners
of my
mind

the longing for home bit hit a bit too close to, well, home

Black dog, depression at its worse. All encompassing, unrelenting, turning daylight into night. I like how you convey the darkness as a stalker. That I like very much.
