Grass stains

Grass stains

A Poem by Rosezelene Ersa
"

Just a silly little poem which might actually be me venting my frustrations about what other people think. Decide for yourself.

"

Misunderstood.

That’s what they say,

‘cause I should act in any other way.

I shouldn’t wear overalls splattered with paint

To a fancy restaurant

On my first date.

I shouldn’t walk barefoot

‘round the church grounds or pews,

And I really shouldn’t eat the chocolate set out

For the old ladies, too.

(Honesty, I don’t think they’d mind, but who asks me?)

I shouldn’t climb trees

Or hike my skirt up to my knees,

I'm not to sit on the ground and make mud pies

With my niece.

“Why not?”

I ask, but they all shake their heads.

“A lady should not be so rugged.”

“A lady should be refined.”

“Well, I don’t wanna.

And I won’t change my mind.”

So I roll in the grass,

And splash in the streams,

Despite all the glares they like throwing at me.
