sunstroke

sunstroke

A Poem by red-juliet

Sunstroke

like a beam of sunshine it shone right through me

and illuminated all the dusty corners

and leaked out of my eyes in golden tears

and dripped to the floor and became your feet

and swirled the yellow motes of dust around us

so bright I couldn’t open my eyes

and secure and safe and like a hot whisper

that blew through my hair and became your breath

the sun smiled and the air was thick

and I couldn’t breathe for time slowed down

when you’d reach your hands on me

and knocked the air clean out my lungs

glowing from your skin like the beam lit you too

and cut through your cobwebs

and broke out of your mouth

and you were the baking sun
