Hide-and-Seek

Hide-and-Seek

A Poem by Rebekah W.

I laugh as I try to find you,
a hide-and-seek game, of sorts.
That's all we ever play.
You hide, I seek...
Carefully, so as not to scare you away.

Sometimes my search becomes a panic.
I can't find you.
I know you're there, hiding around one of these dark corners,
but it seems as though just when I'm about to find you,
you rush off to another hiding spot.

The game is still fun, though.
One of my favorites, to tell you the truth...
For even when you come up with one of the best hiding spots,
the delicious search reminds me of my youth.

I hold my breath in my final search.
You've hidden too long, and the game will soon expire.
Please, unveil yourself and let me find you.
If you don't, if I don't,
surely you will stay hidden forever,
becoming a long lost memory, and that's a nostalgia I cannot bear.

And then you jump out of the corners,
knowing you've tested my limits once again.
But I forgive you,
because there you are.
And there he is.
And the game is over,
and all have won.
