Benefit of the Doubt.

Benefit of the Doubt.

A Poem by Rebecca Hope Rouston

Appreciate the little things in life
Because they can really define you
All I wanted to do was keep you well
But there's only so much I can do
When you're lying on the bathroom floor
Or where ever you might've been
Blade in hand, placed upon your skin
Were you thinking of me then?
While your scars are starting to heal
Mine are just beginning to bleed
I fear for you, I fear that's not the last time
It won't end, no matter how I plead
I understand why you did this to yourself
That is all you need to know
I realize the thrill and the satisfying pain
I can't believe I've made you feel so hollow
I thought we were happier than this
We did have one abominable fall out
Several times it's resulted in this
I just have to give you the benefit of the doubt
