Life Lessons

Life Lessons

A Poem by Rebecca

Through life's hardships and troubles,

You learn a few quick survival techniques:

Number 1: Run away from temptation.

All it does is bring you short joy and long pain.

Number 2: Hide your heart.

All the world does is try to break it.

Number 3: Be yourself.

For who else will?

I gave into temptation, and gave you my heart,

You bent this fragile soul to the point of no return.

You played with my emotions, and I'm the one who burned,

I'm not just some recycled bottle you can throw only to get back,

My heart and mind are fragile as glass, and once you break it,

It's gone.

I'm done helping the selfish,

I have no point of sympathy for such a rotted heart,

I have no doubt you'll go somewhere in this world,

But I won't be watching.

You... are no longer my responsibility.

You're sad? You're sad?

You got what you wanted,

I was not aware you had feelings to hurt,

I hope I'm wrong about you, but hey,

That's not my job anymore.

Really good piece.
I especially enjoyed the first stanza.
But -one- thing you might want to consider is making it longer.
You gave three pieces of advice in the poem but only pursued one further than the first stanza.
You poem is great, please don't mistake me. ^-^
But I think it could be -marvelous- if you lengthened it and included examples of the other two points.
Either way, a well expressed piece.

I can't help but admire you. Your words of wisdom are always exactly what it is that I need to hear or read.
"I gave into temptation, and gave you my heart,
You bent this fragile soul to the point of no return..."
So perfectly said :)

I absolutely LOVE this piece. You've managed to display so much emotion in the written word and you've picked a difficult subject. I've never read a poem with such sage advice that I've appreciated quite this much.
"Be yourself. For who else will?"
That's the best advice you can get.
This is a great write. Fantastic job!
